Hazel Woman's Club Events & More
Hazel Celebration Car Show
Each year on the first Saturday of October, the Club
organizes and hosts the Annual Hazel Celebration Open Car
Show. The Club also prepares and sells food at the Show.
This event has become one of the Club’s largest fund
raisers.
Hazel Alumni Banquet
Each year in June, the Club caters the Hazel Alumni Banquet.
Club members provide and prepare the food for the event.
This is one of the Club’s largest fund raisers.
Community Beautification
The Hazel Woman’s Club has done many things to help the
community of Hazel. We were responsible for coordinating the
efforts and helped raise money for the playground equipment
in the City Park. The Club also provided the ‘Welcome to
Hazel’ sign on Main Street. Other projects have included
donating money to help the City buy new trash receptacles,
putting new windows in the Community Center and purchasing
tables for the Community Center.
Janie Story Memorial Scholarship
Each year the Hazel Woman’s Club presents a scholarship to a
Hazel area high school student that will be attending Murray
State University. This scholarship, awarded annually in May,
was renamed in 1985 after the loss of Janie Story, one of
the Club’s charter members.
Fish Pond
Club members, with the help of husbands, boyfriends, sons
and others, build a fishing pond at the West Kentucky Boat &
Outdoor Show. Kids, young and old, have a great time trying
to catch a variety of fish. The Club accepted donations.
Annual Senior Citizen Luncheon
Every year in May, the Hazel Woman’s Club has a luncheon for
Hazel area seniors at the Community Center. The Club
prepares and serves the food. Additionally area businesses
provide door prizes and the Club gives all the seniors a
goodie bag.
Christmas Decorating Contest
For several years, the Hazel Woman’s Club has sponsored an
outdoor decorating contest for the residents of Hazel.
Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Places.
KFWC/GFWC Events
Club members have the opportunity to attend the First
District Fall Conference and Summer Workshop each year. Each
year in late spring, KFWC holds the State Convention and the
GFWC Annual Convention is in the summer. These events are
fun and informative and give club members the chance to
network and learn.
Donations
The Hazel Woman’s Club supports many different organizations
and projects with donations. Some of the donations made over
the last several years include: United Way, Relay for Life,
Project Graduation, Santa Project, Hooked on Fishing, Heart
Walk, Operation Smile and the WW II Veterans Trip to
Washington. |
